Dear River Church Family,

Eleven months into this year and we again find ourselves in a place we had hoped not to be. Monday, November 9th, the church leadership made the difficult decision to close in-person Sunday services until January 17th (when we will re-evaluate) on the recommendation of our COVID team. This team of people deeply loves the River Church and has worked tirelessly to keep up with the changing guidelines for our community and state and felt that this was the best decision for us in this season.

To be very clear, there has not been a positive COVID case in our staff or volunteers. We are doing this as a precaution as we go into what is normally a busy cold and flu season. While none of us wanted to be here, we have found that the unpredictability of the season has lent itself to doing things very differently than we’d prefer.

What does this mean for TRC? It just means that things will look different for the next couple of months.

  • We will continue to stream services on Sunday mornings at 9am. These services are pre-recorded so the quality is much better than the live-stream many experienced in previous months.
  • There will not be any in-person ROOTS youth group meetings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until mid-January. Pastor Andy and our middle school director, Sarah Brainard, and their teams are working at creating different ways for our youth to connect and will be communicating that through ROOTS social media.
  • Wednesday Funday (through our SPROUTS children’s ministry) will be pausing their programming, not moving online. Our children’s directors, Ashley and Ashley, will be working to continue to support families in discipling their kids at home.
  • Our offices will remain open unless the county guidelines state that we need to close. You may still connect with our leadership during this time. To visit in person we ask that you call ahead. Our phone number is 970-247-7777 and our email is office@trcdurango.com. You can reach out that way and be connected with someone from there. Office hours are Monday-Thursday from 8:30-5:00.

As a leadership team we feel deeply the pain of not being in community like we are used to. We also remember, and are leaning into, Him Who knows and cares and has not left us on our own. One of our greatest weapons is that of thankfulness (Paul and Silas, undaunted, prayed in the middle of the night and sang songs of praise to God, while all the other prisoners listened to their worship. Acts 16:25). We have much to be thankful for, even in the midst of challenging circumstances. We are thankful He is our Rock and is not shaken even when the world seems to be upside down. We see this time as an opportunity, once again, for the Body of Christ to praise like Paul and Silas and see prison doors open for ourselves and those around us.

We love you church and we are praying for you! Keep your eyes and ears open as we explore new and different ways to stay connected with the River Church community as we grow during the next couple months.

Blessings,
Jill Palmer
