Hebrew word for “anoint” in 1 Samuel 16:13 is “mashach” – to rub with oil, to consecrate, (STRONG’S says “to draw the hand over anything / something”)
Greek word for appoint is “chrio” – to consecrate, furnishing someone with the necessary powers for administration of an office / role (the context of this verb is through contact, “to touch with the hand”)
1 Samuel 10:6 (NIV) – The Spirit of the Lord will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person. Once these signs are fulfilled, do whatever your hand finds to do, for God is with you.

The purpose of anointing is to pass on the presence and touch of God to his people
