Pray for a deeper love for others by Jay Wilkinson

Scripture: “I love each of you with the same love that the Father loves me. You must let my love continually nourish your hearts. If you keep my commands, you will live in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands, for I continually live nourished and empowered by his love. My purpose for telling you these things is so that the joy that I experience will fill your hearts with overflowing gladness.
So this is my command : Love each other, as much as I have loved you. For the greatest love of all is a love that sacrifices all. And this great love is demonstrated when a person sacrifices his life for his friends.” ( John 15: 9-13 TPT)

Observation: When Jesus said the greatest commandment was to love your Lord God with all your heart, mind and soul, and to love your neighbor as yourself, it spoke to the true nature of who he is – the embodiment of love. It wasn’t about the sacrifices anymore. It was about learning to love each other so that this world would live the way God intended it to live. God gave us Jesus, his greatest love, because he loves us so much.

Application: If God was willing to let his Son be nailed to a cross – out of love for me. And Jesus was willing to take on all of my sins – out of love for me. And the Holy Spirit was given to me so that I might walk in that love, then how can I not pass that love on to others? Am I worthy of all that love? No! Do I truly love others the way Jesus loves me? Probably not. But deep in my soul, do I want to feel all of God’s love and share that love with others? YES!!

Prayer: Father I pray you take me back to the womb when you first knit me together. When the touch of your love was first felt. That that purest form of love would spread from me to another, to this community, to this nation and to this world. May I learn to love others as you have loved me, and as you continue to love me. Amen.
