Be Prepared for the Harvest by Susan Williams

Scripture:

Don’t be misled- you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.
Galatians 6:7-9

Observation:

Scripture states as a fact that Harvest season IS coming and we each have an important role to play. As an individual and a collective community we will harvest exactly what we have planted and devoted our care and attention toward. If we choose to invest and focus our lives around selfish desires, fear and impulses, we will end up with unfulfilling outcomes and an empty spirit. We will begin to see the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) if we fully submit to the work that God desires to do through us.

Application:

Each day we have an opportunity to nurture the seeds that have been planted in our lives and in our community. All parts of the planting process have value and despite our desire to see the harvest, we must submit ourselves to the planting, watering and groundwork that allow growth. While the seasons that lead to harvest can be long and grueling, we can be encouraged that “at just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing.”

Prayer:

Father God,
Reveal to us the seeds that we have planted and forgive us for the things that have taken root in our lives and in our community that are not of You. We praise You for the fact that the harvest IS COMING in Your perfect timing. Strengthen us through both the monotonous and the harsh seasons that we will encounter and give us the perseverance to continue in Your will.
